Abstract
Abstract: Biomaterials are selected to perform a specific function in a specific clinical application. Titanium is a material with interesting biological properties. The most convincing evidence of the biocompatibility of titanium is the long-term clinical experience with titanium oral implants. A predictable and successful treatment of partial and total edentulism with threaded titanium implants has been documented [1–6]. Implant success rates within the range of 86–99% after 5–15 years have been reported using a two-stage surgical procedure [1,7,8].
